2020 FLEET HALF MARATHON (TEAM PROJECT GIN - Georgina Anderson and Charlotte Lee)

Story

In October 2016, Project Gin, was created by Georgina, Charlotte and Lucy. Well, we didn’t want to call our What’s App group ‘Lucy’s Cancer Updates’ – not quite the same ring. Tragically, a short 6 months later, Lucy died from her Bowel Cancer on 27th April 2017, aged 37, survived by Paul and their 2 gorgeous little children, Oscar and Emilia. Lucy found her illness ‘quite frankly ridiculous’ and remained positive throughout, downing morphine like the 3 of us used to down gin together - no complaints. As best friends we were inseparable - we miss Lucy and her infectious giggle so, so much. Now almost 3 years since we said goodbye, we (Georgina and Charlotte), thought we’d run a Half Marathon (in glamorous Fleet) on what should be Lucy’s 40th Birthday on 15th March 2020 – with a G&T at the finish line we hope! Two Half Marathon’s make a Whole, right?! It’s probably the last thing Lucy would be doing, she would be on the sofa with a cup of tea and a biscuit saying why bother when there are taxis?! But we think we have a good reason to now bother!! (And we're not sure how reliable Fleet’s taxi service is!). To date, Lucy's family and friends have raised an amazing £75,000 in her memory. This pot is currently funding a PHD student who started her placement in Edinburgh in September 2019, doing lab research into the BRAF mutated gene type Lucy had. We’re informed the student is one of the best scientists in that area of the UK. Your donations will not only continue fund some of the best research around, but also give a talented young scientist their first push into what will be a rewarding career in which she will make a significant contribution to the field. We hope to continue to build this pot - the more funds, the longer the research can continue and hopefully go towards giving others a chance of the happy ever after they deserve. THANK YOU – Lucy, her family and Bowel Cancer Research charity would be SO grateful. We're off for a run!

FLEET HALF UPDATE

26th March 2020
Thank you so much for your kind donations. WE ARE DELIGHTED WITH THE AMOUNT RAISED! As many will now know, this event was postponed due to the growing concern posed by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Georgina and Charlotte will continue with the training (in isolation) and will be running 'TAKE 2'. In the meantime, Georgina decided to run the distance on her own anyway (back on 15th March) - starting and ending the route at Lucy's house with her children starting the 'race' and handing over a G&T at the finish!
